We here in Central Texas are on our 24th straight day of 100 degree whether, we have had 64 days this year of over 100 degree whether.
Everything is parched as in parchment paper. I see cedar trees, well, they really are juniper trees dieing from lack of water. It really is bad. And then of course, feast or famine, we will get 18 inches of rain in a day. It never fails.

I know a picture is worth a thousand words, so I will try to present my pics. After two computer crashes, I am still working on where all my files went.

No knitting, no dutch oven cooking no anything, too HOT!!

Yesterday in a small little town not too far away from my abode it hit 100 degrees, yes, 100.

It’s been twenty degrees warmer than normal, and with my ac not working in my car, I am a little tired of it.

I really haven’t been blogging for a good reason. I got an ipod. I listen to geeky podcasts, computer related, spreadsheet related, knitting related. I love the Knitmore girls, Jasmin and Gigi are just precious. Paula at pipeline is very informative, and I love the letters from EZ. I had a couple of hand written letters from her when I lived in Hawaii. She was so happy someone in Hawaii was knitting wool!

I have been knitting for charity, a charity my friend and I started. We have done over 200 scarves with a little help from friends, lots of friends. Go to facebook and look for Austinscarfproject. Gumpy is NOT my obsession. just sayin’.

So, in the heat of the day, earthworms crawl onto a concrete sidewalk and basically commit suicide. WHY??

Yes, I do. Especially when they are super nice and have everything I could possibly want in yarn and accessories.

I sat in mine for a couple of hours today. I felt at ease and welcomed. It’s the way things should be. I spent a few dollars to stash enhance. Or enhance my stash.

A Couple of weeks ago, I had a great class with this guy at my lys.

And he brought along this Gal.

There is a higher power at work when a sheep with a cig and a beer is at peace, maybe not silence with the burping…. but peace for sure!

Dogs, this is how much I love ‘em

Yep, I am a dog lover. My mom, in her great wisdom, was sitting next to me one day and said “you know, I like cats. But, we are dog people.” Only later did I find out that Thanksgiving it was mom letting the stinkies fly and blaming it on the three dogs under our feet!!

Sunday I saw a dog with a trailing WIRE running down my rural road. I went and followed him. He sat up on a rock on the side of the road swiggling his tail smiling at me. I had no hesitation to pick em up and bring him home. He was skinny with ribs showing and sat there smiling. We feed him twice that night and he slept in a crate IN THE HOUSE without a wimper.

We found the owners from the rabies vet tag. After three calls to the owner, he and his two kids were low to low-medium on enjoyment of finding their dog. He was gone four days and didn’t want to return home. I don’t blame him, he didn’t want to be chained to a doghouse in 30 degree weather. I learned a lesson, sometimes just moving on and finding a better place for him would have been the right thing. A dog doesn’t get that skinny in three days.

Dogs and responsibility

Yes, I am a dog owner. She is the most spoiled rotten brat if there ever was one. At 9AM as I write this, she is still snoozing under the covers with my hubs, both peaceful and content. (She got two new squeaky toys yesterday and had loads of fun!)

But, while traveling to my LYS yesterday to say congrats on their two year anniversary and meet Amy Singer, editer of Knitty online magazine, I found a Boston Terrier on the side of the road. A busy road. We turned around and found her again. I got out of the car, clapped my hands and yelled go home. She went through a cattlegard and up a gated road like she knew she shouldn’t be there. Dog saved… for now.

Then, when I get to the LYS, I here this story. I would be there to do the second punch, only much lower than the throat. Donate if you are able please!

Just sayin’ if you are a dog owner, watch every minute of their short lives, because they don’t know not to cross a busy street.

Nuff said.

lace and time

Franklin had it right. The reason I haven’t COMPLETED any lace is because of time. Long stretches of unirrupted time. I tried knitting a few rows on my Hemlock Blanket. I started it many moons ago and got to the infamous 35th row, and lost any saneness. It had a Chinese hat thing going on for the very center, and well, the increases were off, a lot. It was ripped with great flourish.

As far as knitting lace samples, not much. Work is nuts with everyone taking vacation. The time is busy, not so much for lace projects. That said, I bought a lace sampler from knitpicks. I didn’t say I wasn’t stash building!!

Open letter to Franklin, the in-depth lace teacher!!!

1. I now know how to read a chart CORRECTLY.

2. I now know why I can’t knit lace anywhere.

3. I now know to pick and choose wisely my patts, even do a sampler and keep adding to it!!

4. Dolores is lovely, a bit loud, but nevertheless!!

vacations and the return to…..

And the return to your life, such as it is. I have a cousin, who looks at the world with the half empty glass theory. He always is having a bad day, even on the really good ones. It takes a lot of effort to do this. He looks beat down and truth be said, probably is. My friend and I wonder whether all this self imposed stress will shorten his life span.

I just came back from a little hiatus. (It was time, it’s been three years when the last vacation happened.) No drama to deal with while I was away, just a little peace and quite. With your most inner thoughts, which normally get lost in the day to day life.

I came back to chaos at work, of course. I was caught up in a day. They have panic attacks when I am gone, I do payroll and that’s near and dear to everyone around here. Plus, there is an element of enabling I must deal with, I can’t share too much on this but it happens on a daily basis. I pick and choose my battles, and the battles are less and less. I guess that is a good thing.

I did knit some washcloths, some pretty durn cute ones too!! I started a ballband washcloth several times, it just didn’t look right so a froggin’ we went.

There’s something about knitting mindlessly with your feet in the sand and ocean waves gently lapping the seawall. Go do it, as soon as possible, ’nuff said.
